Bambu Lab Confirms Consumer UV Printer Project

Bambu Lab is developing a consumer-grade UV printer, the company has confirmed to All3DP. The project takes the 3D printer maker into a category that applies color and graphics to existing objects rather than building the objects themselves.

Nadia Yaakoubi, Bambu Lab's head of PR and communications, told the publication that the company's original aim extended beyond a single type of machine. Its longer-term idea is a personal manufacturing hub, and she linked the UV project to the same expansion that has already taken Bambu Lab into laser processing.

The shape of that workshop is becoming clearer. The company's 3D printers make parts, while the forthcoming R1 laser will cut and engrave material. A UV printer would cover another step by applying full-color graphics to completed pieces. Taken together, the products suggest a range of separate tools covering different stages of desktop production, although Bambu Lab has not published a roadmap tying them together.

The project also appears to be at an early stage. According to 36Kr, recruitment spans more than ten areas of development, including printhead electronics, ink-delivery systems, material testing and software integration.
